Co-founder, Principal Designer
Raised in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, co-founder Pearl Arnold has strong roots in the Southeast. She attended the School of Architecture at Tulane University for her first two years of college and then completed her undergraduate design studies at Rhode Island School of Design, where she earned a BFA and a BIA. While on a teaching fellowship at Kansas State University's College of Architecture, Planning, and Design, she took graduate architecture courses and taught design studios. Pearl returned home to North Carolina and in 2005 founded Pearl Arnold Designs, LLC, a studio that focused on efficient use of space for sustainable renovations and additions. Creating clever solutions to redefine existing spaces within the context of a residence is a process that invigorates Pearl. The challenge of reworking and reorganizing rooms to create the most useful space makes all of her designs unique and powerfully simple. She designs from the inside outward while balancing a focus on individualized functionality with opportunities to draw in natural light and views of the outdoors. While she enjoyed working with various building companies to realize her designs, she most often requested Triple Aught Builders, LLC to build her projects. So, in 2014 Pearl Arnold Designs, LLC merged with Triple Aught Builders, LLC and became Triple Aught Design + Build, LLC a step that enables maximum efficiency and smooth continuity in completing any job. Design details are carefully considered, clearly communicated, and implemented to produce a quality, unique, and personal finished product.

Gerard Kellas joined the Triple Aught team in 2013. Originally from Virginia Beach, VA, Gerard attended St. Presbyterian College where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in biology. His interest in horticulture and travel lead him to Dorf Tirol, Italy in the Alps foothills where he worked for several years as farm manager of a 4 acre vineyard which featured a winery and also hosted study abroad programs. He returned to the US in 2003 for a summer internship at Virginia Tech where he pursued grapevine research. NABCEP Certified Solar Specialist
Matthew Carter first began developing construction and renewable energy skills while building a yurt, outdoor kitchen, and various experimental solar hot water and energy systems on an organic avocado ranch in Carpinteria, CA in 2009. After several years doing farming, carpentry, cabinetmaking, and furniture building work, as well as a stint in a PhD program doing ecological modeling and teaching geographical analysis methods, he began working full-time as a carpenter at a green building company in central Illinois. He completed extensive training in solar array assessment, design, and installation at the Midwest Renewable Energy Association’s Solar Training Academy in 2015. He subsequently helped create a solar energy division in the company, and assisted in writing a successful proposal to participate as a partner in a regional solar group buy program that ultimately brought more than 650KW of new solar generation to the grid. Matt is a certified NABCEP Photovoltaic Installation Professional, which requires extensive field experience, in-depth knowledge of the National Electrical Code, passing a rigorous exam, and a solid record of successful solar installations. He has performed numerous solar site assessments and has had a hand in designing and installing more than 25 solar energy systems, including bimodal and off-grid installations.
Licensed Electrician, Craftsman
After a childhood spent exploring snake-infested creeks, a secret 19th century graveyard, and the martian landscape of an abandoned landfill near his hometown of Reidsville, NC, Ash earned a degree in International Studies from UNC-Chapel Hill, with a year abroad to study Spanish language and philology at the University of Seville. Along the way, trips to Morocco and his mother's ancestral village in northern Japan fostered his interest in linguistics and cultural anthropology, as well as design and aesthetics. In his twenties, Ash primarily worked as a guitar player, collaborating on a number of studio albums and touring the US and Europe, which took him on adventures from Vilnius to Ljubljana to Cornwall and many places in between. After a decade of splitting time between Chapel Hill, Boston and San Francisco, he returned to settle down in 2002 and began a career as an electrician, eventually earning his electrical contractor's license. He lives near Hillsborough with his young son and their cats. Ash joined Triple Aught in 2016.
