The Songbird House is designed as an 'age in place' home in downtown Chapel Hill.

Working with a small pie-shaped lot at the end of a cul-de-sac, we nestled this small home in towards the front of the property for ease of getting in and out of the driveway.  The lower level is available for a caregiver suite, should the residents ever have the need.  We employed cement board siding, metal soffits and fascia, and thermally modified ash for the trim,  so little or no exterior house maintenance would be required.  Solar panels are installed on the east facing roof to provide energy for the entire home.  The front entry is accented with handmade cement tiles by local artist, Andy Fleishman.
